mann has also been developing a film adaptation of the don winslow novel entitled the winter of frankie machine. the basic gist, an ex san diego mob hit man (robert de niro) is lured back into his dangerous profession. sounds, i dunno, awesome?

In November 2005, prior to the publishing of The Winter of Frankie Machine, interest in a film adaptation was expressed by Tribeca Films and actor Robert De Niro. The rights to the project were shopped to various studios, being acquired by Paramount Pictures.^[1] De Niro was attached to star in the lead role, and in September 2006, screenwriters Brian Koppelman and David Levien were hired to adapt the novel into a script. The writing team received a “rich” deal in the low seven figures.^[2] In October 2007, director Michael Mann was attached to film the project, titled Frankie Machine. Under the director’s supervision, screenwriter Alex Tse was hired to revise the concept of the story.

public enemies. everything about it was perfect. no, it was. surprisingly, the best thing about pe was not depp’s or bale’s characters, but the cast of supporting characters. there were too many tremendous, yet realistically subtle personalities in this film to list (as is in every mann flick), and it was apparent that every person in the film was meticulously chosen to be perfect for their role. see it.
